ECPL

The project, titled "Defining common standards for vocational training in cultural heritage conservation skills. Developing an ECPL – European Conservation Practitioner's License," with the acronym ECPL, aims to disseminate the concept of internationally recognized certification of skills acquired in the field of restoration. The concept of European certification has already been introduced, for example, in the IT sector with the so-called "European license" (ECDL, European Computer Driving License), which for years has allowed the measurement and validation of possession of a minimum (standard) level of IT skills.

The ECPL project aims to create a benchmark in the field of Vocational Education and Training (VET), which is currently highly fragmented and regionalized.

The project has three main objectives. The first is to identify current provisions in the VET sector. This research will allow us to define Minimum Common Standards for competencies in selected subjects across five levels—from Operator and Expert Craftsman to Professional Restorer—and create a model curriculum for three of the selected subjects. Finally, a foundation or consortium of restoration institutes from across Europe will establish and be responsible for ensuring and monitoring
